Computerised 3 Cylinder 4 Stroke Mpfi Petrol Engine Test Rig (With Data Logging Facility)

DESCRIPTION :

The setup consists of three cylinder, four stroke, petrol (MPFI) engine connected to eddy current dynamometer for loading. It is provided with necessary instruments for combustion pressure and crank-angle measurements. These signals are interfaced to computer through engine indicator for P-θ, PV diagrams. Provision is also made for interfacing airflow, fuel flow, temperatures and load measurement. The setup has stand-alone panel box consisting of air box, fuel tank, manometer, fuel

measuring unit, transmitters for air and fuel flow measurements, process indicator and engine indicator. Rotameters are provided for cooling water and calorimeter water flow measurement.

The setup enables study of engine performance for brake power, indicated power, frictional power, BMEP, IMEP, brake thermal efficiency, indicated thermal efficiency, Mechanical efficiency, volumetric efficiency, specific fuel consumption, A/F ratio and heat balance. Labview based engine performance analysis software package “Enginesoft” is provided for online performance evaluation. EngineSoft is Labview based software package developed by CL. Engineers for engine performance monitoring system. EngineSoft can serve most of the engine testing application needs including monitoring, reporting, data entry, data logging. The software evaluates power, efficiencies, fuel consumption and heat release. It is configurable as per engine setup. Various graphs are obtained at different operating condition. While on line testing of the engine in RUN mode necessary signals are scanned, stored and presented in graph. Stored data file is accessed to view the data graphical and tabular formats. The results and graphs can be printed. The data in excel format can be used for further analysis.

Separating & Throttling Calorimeter (With Data Logging Facility)

DESCRIPTION :

SEPARATING CALORIMETER : -

It consists of two concentric chambers, the inner chamber and the outer chamber, which communicates with each other through an opening at the top. As the steam discharges through the metal basket, which has a large number of holes, the water particles due to their heavier momentum get separated from the steam and collect in the chamber. The comparatively dry steam in the inner chamber moves up and then down aging through the annular space between the two chambers and enters the Throttling Calorimeter.

THROTTLING CALORIMETER : -

It consists a narrow throat (Orifice). Pressure and temperature are measured by pressure transmitter and temperature sensor. The steam after throttling process passes through the heat exchanger and condensate is collected. Steam Generator is also provided to supply the saturated steam (Max) at 2kg/cm2

pressure.

EXPERIMENTATION:

To find the dryness fraction of steam.

DESCRIPTION

The setup consists of four cylinders, four stroke diesel engine connected to dynamometer for loading. It is provided with necessary equipment and instruments for combustion pressure and crank-angle measurements. These signals are interfaced to computer for P-& P-V diagrams. The set-up also consists of air intake measuring unit, fuel measuring unit, temperature measuring unit and an exhaust gas calorimeter. The setup enables study of engine performance for brake power, indicated power, frictional power, BMEP, IMEP, brake thermal efficiency, indicated thermal efficiency, Mechanical efficiency, volumetric efficiency, specific fuel consumption, A/F ratio and heat balance. Rotameters are provided for cooling water and calorimeter water flow measurement. The educational software and data logging package has been developed for this unit. It is compatible to interfacing unit designed by CL Engineers. It provides a comprehensive educational software environment within which the investigations can be performed. This software runs in Windows XP. Interfacing the set up with computer using software can do the real time data acquisition. Data can be transferred in Excel Files for further calculations, plotting graphs, printing etc. Sample readings can be tabulated according to requirement of experiment under study and results obtained can be compared.

THEORY

 

The flash point is the minimum temperature at which an oil gives out sufficient vapor to form an ignitable mixture with air, and gives a momentary flash on application of a small pilot flame. Flash point gives idea about:

• Nature and range of boiling point diagram of the oil.

• Amount of low boiling fraction present in the liquid fuel or lubricant.

• Volatility of the liquid fuels, and
