Jaw Crusher is designed to speed up the crushing of aggregates, ores, minerals, coke, chemicals and others similar materials. It is compact and of rugged construction for general laboratory or small pilot plant operations. The set-up contains two Jaws of hard steel with one Jaw stationary and other moving. The movable jaw produces blows for every revolution reducing over sizing to a minimum. A combination of forward and downward strokes with a rocking action exert pressure on the coarser materials yet permits the finished materials to pass through the jaws. A hopper is provided at the top for feeding material. The smooth jaws ensure a uniform product and easy cleaning is possible. The opening of the Jaw is adjustable. The motor is coupled to the machine through Triple `V' belt drive

The Lab setup is used to crush different sample and material. Two heavy Smooth faced chilled metal rolls turning on parallel horizontal axes are the working elements of the roll crusher. A hopper is provided at the top for feeding the material. Particles of feed caught between the rolls are broken in compression and drop out below. The rolls turn towards each other at the same speed. They have relatively narrow faces and are larger in diameter so that they can nip moderately large lumps. Loading bolts are provided for safety. The maximum size of the product is approximately equal to gap between the rolls & it can be adjusted by loading bolts.

Ball Mills are horizontal rotating cylindrical steel chamber of half filled with steel balls. The size reduction is accomplished by the impact of balls as they fall back after being lifted by the baffles fitted in the rotating chamber. Ball Mill is fitted on a sturdy MS frame. Charging of balls and material is done by the means of opening provided in the chamber. The chamber is turning about the horizontal axis through a reduction gearbox and three step pulley connected to a motor. The stepped pulley arrangement is done for moving the Ball Mill at three different speeds. A revolution counter is provided to find out the number of turns. Special arrangement is done to free the Ball Mill from reduction gearbox for charging and discharging the material.

Vibrating screens are those, which rapidly vibrated with small amplitude, are less likely to blind than gyrating screens. The vibrations may be generated mechanically or electrically. Mechanical vibrations are usually transmitted from high-speed eccentrics to the casing of the unit and from there to inclined screens. The setup consists of three different screens with 380mm width and 600mm length fitted on a rigid M.S. frame, feed hopper, eccentric etc. Three screens of different sizes are fitted one above the other. The drives are given from an electric motor.

Trommel or revolving screens consists of a cylindrical screen rotated about its axis. Simple Trommel may be arranged in series with oversize of the first passing to the second Trommel and the oversize of the second passing to the third, etc. They are quite efficient for coarse sizes. The inclination of Trommel varies depending on the nature of material to be processed. The present Trommel is built with screens of different sizes throughout their length, the feed entering at the end of the finest screen. In this way it is possible to collect materials of different size range from a single Trommel. Drive to the central shaft is given through a motor coupled to reduction gearbox. Set-up is complete in all respect with guards, bins and control panel. A special arrangement to change the angle of inclination of the Trommel is made.

Gyratory type shaker is driven by FHP motor through a reduction gear suitable to carry up to 7 sieves of 15 cm or 20 cm diameter. A Cyclone Separator is a vertical cylinder with the inlet stream introduced tangentially near the top, giving the suspension a spinning rotation in the cylinder. The centrifugal force acting on the particles tends to throw them radially to the sides of the cylinder as they spiral downward to a conical bottom where they are removed. A collector is fitted at the bottom & the induced draft blower is used to create the air stream. The classified air leaves the cyclone through a pipe extended down into the cyclone & passes through blower delivery side fitted with fine screen cloth bag to avoid dust expansion in the laboratory. The setup consists of I.D. blower connected to discharge side of Cyclone Separator. A flow meter with manometer is provided to measure the flow rate of air. An Elutriator is vertical tube through which a fluid passes upwardly at a specific velocity while a solid mixture, whose separation is desired, is fed into the top of the column. The large particles, which settle at a velocity higher than that of the rising fluid, are collected at the bottom of the column, and the smaller particles are carried out of the top of the column with the fluid. Several columns of different diameters in series may be used to bring about a further separation. The set up consists of two vertical tubes of different diameter in which water is passed at a controlled velocity. A tank with pump is provided for re-cycled water supply and flow rate is measured by Rotameter and controlled with the help of control valve. The tubes are arranged in a fashion of ascending cross-section area. The particles are introduced through a feed hopper provided at first tube, the smaller particles are carried over in the fluid stream, while the large particles settle against the upward stream. The overflow from the first tube introduced at the bottom of second tube is passed vertically upwards and the overflow from the second tube introduced at the, is passed to drain. The weighed sample originally placed in the first tube of smallest diameter is classified into fractions according to their settling velocities. The fractions are collected in successive tubes by a special arrangement and may be dried and weighed to make analysis.

Materials, that have different magnetic attractability, may be separated by passing them through a magnetic field. Most often, magnetic separation techniques are used to remove iron, steel or magnetic iron oxide from materials low in magnetic attractability. These devices operate in either a continuous or a cyclic manner. Continuous devices usually have a belt which moves over the lifting magnetic poles to carry the magnetize partials into a region of low or zero magnetic field, where they are released. The present set-up is of In-line lifting magnet type. The set-up consists of two belts moving separately in opposite direction at slow speed. Feed through a vibrating hopper is conveyed over first belt and allowed to pass near the second belt, which is under magnetic field. The magnetic field is generated by permanent magnet kept in a box. Magnetically inert material drops off the belt in a normal manner. Magnetic material is held on the belt, however, and finally drops off the belt as it leaves the magnetic field. Both the belts are fitted on the pullies and drived by an electric motor coupled with a reduction gearbox.

Mixed liberated particles can be separated from each other by floatation if there is sufficient difference in their wettability. The floatation process operates by preparing a water suspension of a mixture of relatively finely sized solids. This is usually done in an agitated chamber open at the top. Fine bubbles of air are then dispersed through the agitated suspension to form a froth that rises to the top of the chamber. Particles that are radially wetted by water (hydrophilic) tend to remain in the water suspension. Those particles that are not easily wetted (hydrophobic) tend to be collected at the air bubble-water interface and rise to the surface attached to air bubbles. Thus differences in the surface chemical properties of the solids are the basis for separation. The set up consists of a agitated chamber open at the top. In the chamber, an impeller coupled to a shaft is fixed in a stationary diffuser. Low-pressure air is allowed to enter in the stationary diffuser through the air passage provided with the agitator. The collector coated mineral particles adhere to the rising bubbles and are carried to the top of the cell to be removed in the froth product.

Industrial sedimentation operations may be carried out batch wise and continuously in equipment called thickener. The equipment is a cylindrical tank with openings for a slurry feed and product draw off. The tank is filled with dilute slurry and slurry is permitted to settle. Continuous thickeners are large diameter, shallow depth tanks with slowly revolving rakes for removing the sludge. The slurry is fed at the center of the tank. Around the top edge of the tank is a clear liquid overflow. The rake serves to scrap the sludge towards the center of the bottom for discharge. The motion of the rake also stirs only the sludge layer. This gentle stirring aids in water removal from the sludge. The set-up consists of several basic components: a tank to contain the slurry, feed piping and a feed well to allow the feed stream to enter the tank, a rotating rack mechanism to assist in moving the concentrated solids to the withdrawal points, an underflow solids-withdrawal system and an overflow launder. A feed tank, feed pump, and feed tank agitator is provided. A bin for collecting concentrated material is also provided.

The present set up is designed to conduct the separation test. It consists of a flat table which is inclined at an angle of about 3° to the horizontal. Running approximately parallel to the top edge is a series of slats, or riffles as they are turned, about 6 mm in height. The material to be separated is fed on to one of the top corners and a reciprocating motion consisting of a forward direction and return stroke, causes it to move across the table. The particles also tend to move downwards under the combined action of gravity and of a stream of the water which is introduced along the top edge, but are opposed by the riffles behind which the smaller particles as the cleaner material tend to be held. Thus, the large particles and the less dense material are carried downwards, and the remainder is carried parallel to the riffles.

Pressure filters can apply a large pressure differential across the septum to give economically rapid filtration with viscous liquids or fine solids. The most common types of pressure filters are filter press. A filter press contains a set of plates designed to provide a series of chambers or compartments in which solids may collect. The plates are covered with a filter medium such as canvas cloth. Slurry is admitted to each compartment under pressure; liquor passes through the canvas cloth and out a discharge pipe, leaving a wet cake of solids behind. Plates and frames sit horizontally in a metal rack, with cloth covering the face of each plate, and are squeezed tightly together by a screw. Slurry enters at one end of the assembly of plates and frame. It passes through a channel running lengthwise through one corner of assembly. The set up consists of 7 plates and 6 frames. Frames are covered with filter cloth. Feed is fed by gear pump at the top and filtrate collected at the bottom from each plate by operating the cock. After removing Cake, washing and cleaning can be done by water provided by overhead tank. Inlet & outlet pressures are measured by pressure gauges. Rate of filtrate removals is measured by calibrated tank provided.

The most common types of continuous vacuum filter is the rotary drum filter. A horizontal drum with a slotted face turns at less than 2 RPM in an agitated slurry trough. A filter medium, such as canvas, covers the face of drum, which is partly submerged in the liquid. Under the slotted cylindrical face of the main drum is a second, smaller drum with a solid surface. Between the two drums are radial partitions dividing the annular space into separate compartments, each connected by an internal pipe to one hole in the rotating plate of the rotary valve Vacuum and air are alternately applied to each compartment as the drum rotates. The set-up consists of stainless steel drum moving in gunmetal brackets and is divided in 6 compartments, covered by a Stainless Steel mesh. A canvas filter is used for filtration. The whole assembly is fitted with a SS trough in which a agitator is provided. To make the unit a self-contained a slurry mixing and feed arrangement, receiver tanks, vacuum pump, control panel are provided.

The screw conveyor is one of the oldest and most versatile conveyor types. These are compact, requiring little headroom and no return mechanism. The material is also mixed as it passes through the conveyor.
Screw or helical flight conveyors consists of a steel shaft having a spiral or helical fin fastened to the shaft and rotating in a trough without touching the trough, so that the helical fin pushes the material along the trough. It is fitted with a variable speed motor. Drive with a compatible reduction gearbox to run the screw conveyor at variable speed. A RPM indicator with Proximity sensor indicates the RPM of conveyor.

For a processing vessel to be effective the volume of fluid circulated by the impellers must be sufficient to sweep out the entire vessel in a reasonable time. The velocity of the stream leaving the impeller must be sufficient to carry the current to the remotest parts of the tank. Liquids are most often mixed in some kind of tanks or vessels, usually cylindrical in form and with a vertical axis. Tank bottom is rounded to eliminate regions into which the fluid currents would not penetrate. In the present set-up mixing is done with the help of stirrer. The stirrer is complete with SS Impeller with SS Shaft coupled to FHP DC motor. The speed of agitator can be varied with the help of Thyristor controlled DC Drive and power consumption is measured by Digital Voltmeter & Digital Ammeter. Four replaceable baffles are provided to prevent swirling. One 4-bladded propeller and one 6-bladded turbine are provided which are interchangeable. Drain valve is also provided at the bottom. Effectiveness of power consumption in fluid mixing can be performed with and without baffles hence increasing the range of experimentation. The whole set-up is mounted on a rigid MS frame structure.

Hammer mill consists of Pivoted hammers, mounted on a horizontal shaft. Crushing takes place by impact between the hammers and anvil plate. The hammers delivers heavy blows to the feed material while it is in suspension, driving it against an anvil plate until it is fine enough to pass through the opening of the mesh fitted in the bottom of the Mill.

The present Hammer Mill has sturdy housing that contains 4 Nos. of T shaped hammers, pivoted to a disc, which is fitted with the shaft of the mill turning about the horizontal axis. The shaft is directly coupled to a motor. The housing contains a semi-circular teethed liner (or anvil plate) on the top of it. A glass window to see through in the Mill is fixed on the front cover, which can be opened to change the sieve. Different mesh sizes are provided to get different product size. A hopper with feed opening and adjustment is provided in the Mill. The crushed material is collected in a receiver provided in the set-up. This mill can accept a feed size of 6.5mm or less.
