In an ideal CSTR (i.e. an ideal steady state flow reactor) the contents in reactor are well mixed and have uniform composition throughout. Thus the exit stream has the same composition as the fluid within the reactor. This type of reactor is known as mixed flow reactor. This set-up is used to study a non-catalytic homogeneous second order liquid phase reaction under ambient condition. The set up consists of two feed tanks through which two reactants are fed to the reactor. Rotameters are provided to measure the individual flow of Chemicals. The flow rate can be adjusted by operating the needle valves provided on respective Rotameter. The compressed air is used for circulation of feed. The CSTR is fitted with stirrer for proper mixing. From top outlet of it samples are collected for analysis. Pressure Regulator, Pressure Gauge and Safety Valve are fitted in the compressed air line.
Diffusivity of the vapors is determined by WINKELMANN method in which liquid is allowed to evaporate in a graduated vertical glass tube over the top of which a stream of air is passed.
The setup contains all necessary accessories to determine the diffusion coefficient of vapors (liquid) in air phase. The diffusion vessel is of high quality Borosilicate Glass with a T type diffusion tube engraved in mm scale for level readings. The vessel is mounted over a Magnetic Stirrer cum hot plate of Superior quality provided with controls for vary the temperature and RPM to calculate the rate of diffusion at different temperature. The setup is designed to study the pipes in parallel of same diameter.
Set up consists of a set of 2 pipe test sections, supply tank, measuring tank and pump for closed loop water circulation. A set of valves is provided to conduct the experiment. The test sections are connected to differential manometer through Piezometer and gang box.

Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger are popular in industries because they occupy less space and offer reasonable temperature drop. The apparatus consists of fabricated SS shell, inside which copper tubes with baffles on outer side are fitted. This is two-pass heat exchanger so that hot water passes to one end of shell through the tubes and returns to another end through remaining tubes. The cold water is admitted at the one end of shell, which passes over the hot-water tubes. Valves are provided to control the flow rates of hot and cold water. Flow rates of hot and cold water are measured using Rotameters. A magnetic drive pump is used to circulate the hot water from a re-cycled type water tank, which is fitted with heaters and Digital Temperature Controller.
Hydrodynamics of Packed Bed the set up is capable to study the loading and flooding characteristics. It is a packed column packed with Raschig Rings where the Air is counter currently fed to column. Liquid holdup in the column increases the weight of column and also reduces the effective porosity of packing. This reduction in porosity decreases the gas velocity, increases the pressure drop and changes the value of mass transfer co-efficient. The water is fed from the top of the column and loading & flooding characteristic are observed on various flow rates of Air and Water.

Attached to the end of the crank by a pivot is a rod, usually called aconnecting rod. The end of the rod attached to the crank moves in a circular motion, while the other end is usually constrained to move in alinearsliding motion.
Rotary dryer is a unit in which drying is done by forced draft action created by hot air. The set-up consists of a long revolving cylindrical shell slightly inclined towards the outlet. The shell is fitted with two brackets for support. Air from a blower passes through a heating chamber serves the purpose of drying agent. An arrangement for rotating the dryer shell at low RPM is provided by means of an electrical motor and a reduction gearbox.
Wet feed enters from one end of the cylinder and dry material discharges from the other end. As the shell rotates internal flights lift the solids and shower them down through the interior of the shell. This action increases the contact of wet solid against hot air making the dryer very effective. The flow of hot air is counter-current to solids. Flow control and by-pass valve are fitted to regulate the airflow.

The educational software and data-logging package has been developed for unit. The software environment base is of Labview of NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS, USA. This software is compatible to interfacing unit designed by CL. Engineers. This software package provides a comprehensive educational software environment within which the investigations can be performed. This software is capable to tabulate the sample readings according to the requirement of experiment under study and results obtained can be compared. The real time data acquisition can be done by interfacing the set-up with computer using software. Software allows the user to have control on data logging, printing the stored data, preparing spread sheets in Excel etc.
