Description:

The present Reciprocating Pump Test Rig is a self-contained unit operated on closed circuit basis containing a sump tank. The set-up consists of a Double acting, Single Cylinder Reciprocating Pump coupled with a DC Motor  Power input to the DC Motor is varied by means of a Thyristor controlled DC Drive to vary the RPM of motor. A RPM Indicator with Proximity sensor indicates the RPM of Pump. Flow of water is measured by using measuring tank and stop watch. Vacuum gauge is fitted on suction line and Pressure gauge is fitted on delivery line to measure the pressure.

Description:

A Pitot Tube is used to measure the local velocity at a given point in the flow stress. A pitot tube of standard design made of copper/SS is supplied and is fixed below vernies scale. The vernies scale is capable to measure the position of Pitot Tube in transparent section. The pipe has a flow control valve to regulate the flow. Present set-up is self-contained water re-circulating unit, provided with a sump tank and a centrifugal pump etc. Flow control valve and by-pass valve are fitted in water line to conduct the experiment on different flow rates. Flow rate of water is measured by flow sensor. The present set-up has a facility to interface the system with computer which enables to log the experimental data using computer. The educational software and data-logging package has been developed for unit. The software environment base is of Labview of NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS, USA. This software is compatible to interfacing unit designed by C. L. Engineers. This software package provides a comprehensive educational software environment within which the investigations can be performed. This software is capable to tabulate the sample readings according to the requirement of experiment under study and results obtained can be compared. The real time data acquisition can be done by interfacing the set-up with computer using software. Software allows the user to have control on data logging, printing the stored data, preparing spread sheets in Excel etc.

The set-up is designed to demonstrate and study the vapor-liquid equilibrium. As basic data of any distillation problem is the equilibrium between the liquid and vapor phases of the system subjected to distillation. Hence it is of great importance to study the VLE.
The set-up consists of distillation still with a heating element, shell & tube condenser, reflux & distillate section. A tank with pump is provided to circulate cold water to condenser. Flow rates can be regulated through control valve fitted. Instrumentation is done to measure the temperatures at different points.

A Digital Temp. Controller is connected to heating element for precisely controlling & varying heat input. The vapors form the top of column are condensed in the shell and tube type condenser by circulating cooling water. The condensate is collected in reflux drum and feedback to column as reflux

Computer Controlled - Plug Flow Tubular Reactor  (Straight Tube Type)  (With Data Logging Facility)

Description:

In an ideal Plug Flow Reactor (PFTR) there is no mixing in the direction of flow and complete mixing perpendicular to direction of flow. Concentration of reactants varies along the length of reactor but not in radial direction. This set-up is used to study a non-catalytic homogeneous reaction under ambient condition.The set up consists of two feed tanks through which two reactants  are  fed  to  the  reactor.  Peristaltic  pumps  are provided to measure the individual flow of Chemicals. The flow rate can be adjusted by operating respective Peristaltic pumps. A straight tube type reactor kept horizontally and inclined upward at outlet from where samples are collected for analysis.The present set-up has a facility to interface the system with computer which enables to log the experimental data using computer. Slip & Creep Measurement ApparatusYes! I am interested
This apparatus is useful for measurement of power transmitted for various input power conditions with varied belt tension. Belt slip or creep also can be measured. The apparatus consists of a variable speed motor, driving pulley and driven pulley of equal diameters. The pulleys are mounted on input shaft (motor shaft) and output shaft. The driven pulley can slide on the base only with bearing block to change the initial tension in belt. Brake drum is mounted on the output shaft, which helps to measure power output. The motor speed is varied by variable speed drive. A double channel digital speed indicator indicates driving and driven pulley speeds. With the help of Stroboscope (optional) it is possible to demonstrate the slip of belt on driving and driven pulley.
EXPERIMENTATION:
To measure co-efficient of friction between pulley material and different belt materials.
To measure power transmitted with varied belt tension.
To measure percentage slip at fixed belt tension by varying load on the brake drum and plot the graph of   (T1-T2) v/s percentage slip i.e. “Slip Characteristics”.
To measure belt slip speed and observe the limiting value of load at constant speed when the slip just starts.
To study creep of belt.
